A further education for all those working with movement
The EUROLAB Certificate Program in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies (LBMS) is a further education with a total of four years training. It is done in two steps: first two years in the Basic level and then two years in the Advanced level. Each level finishes with a certificate, which is awarded by EUROLAB.
The Basic Level runs over 2 years in an intensive format in English starting in April 2027. The schedule for each year will be 1 weekend live-online at Easter and 3 weeks in presence in Berlin, Germany in the summer and 1 weekend live-online in the fall.
The goal of the program is to acquire the foundations of a comprehensive movement study and a holistic understanding of movement. Students of the Basic Level will develop their creative skills and discover new growth possibilities by recognizing movement patterns and expanding them through LBMS. They will improve their movement observation and get more clarity, coordination and expression in their movement.
The Basic Level includes the practical and theoretical study of
- the Bartenieff Fundamentals Bodywork (basic six sequences, body connectivity, and whole-body organizational patterns) - focus of the 1st year
- the Laban Movement Studies (Space Harmony, Effort and Shape) - focus of the 2nd year
- movement observation and notation
- as well as seminars on the history and application of LBMS.
Pre-requisites include: A Bachelors degree, vocational training or a similar qualification, as well as in introductory courses in Laban Movement Studies and Bartenieff Fundamentals. A wide range of experience in various types of movement, dance styles or sports is beneficial. Open für all levels.
With the Certificate "Basic" the acquired knowledge can be applied in the professional field of the trainee. After completing the Advanced Level, with the title "Certified Laban Movement Analyst" (CLMA), the graduate will be able to use the material in-depth in their field of application and is qualified to teach introductory courses in LBMS.
